150 PSI Stage 1 Digital Progressively Controlled Kit

Product Information

Controlled by the state of the art Vari-Cool Controller.  This kit will allow you to decide when the injection starts, and when it reaches 100%, all at the rate that you determine.   Everything you need is included in this kit (tank is optional).  The controller, which is mounted in the cabin, has three knobs on it.  One determines the boost level that injection will begin, another determines the boost level that injection reaches 100%, and the third determines at what rate injection goes from 0-100%.   The adjustable injection points vary anywhere from 1-30 psi.  The numbers are easily read on the controller, so you know at exactly what levels the injection is beginning an peaking.  There are too many features to list here, so to see what this controller is fully capable of, click here to open a new window with all of the controllers features listed.  The boost signal to the controller can either be fed via a 0-5v signal from a MAP sensor, or you can simply hook up a 1/8" boost line directly to the controllers boost port.  It can't get much easier than that.  Also, speaking of easy, here are the amazingly simple instructions for installing the controller.

Electrical:
Controller Orange Wire=Ignition wire
Controller Large black wire=Battery Ground
Controller Red Wire connects to Pump Red Wire
Controller Green Wire connects to Pump Black wire.

That's it.  It doesn't get much simpler than that. 

Boost Input:
With the chrome port facing you notice the recessed switch. Make sure that switch is in the left position. Connect your boost/vacuum line over the chrome port. We recommend to put the unit in the cabin (glove box or other). It can run in the engine bay but keep it away from direct heat and water.

0-5V input:
If using the 0-5V instead of the boost port make sure the recessed switch is to the right position.
If using the 0-5 V connect the blue to the +5V input, connect the small black to the Ground wire of the 0-5V input

Lets say you want the system to vary the spray based on boost, but only when you are at or above a certain voltage, OR you want to vary it with voltage, but ONLY when you are above a certain boost.

The above is possible by configuring the software. While its not necessary to use the software (the system is configured with a great map), it is necessary to use software to run this special mode. Software is free and can be downloaded from our software link.

Here are all of the Vari-Cool Controller's features:

The Vari-Cool Controller is the controller in which all others will judged.  This controller has set the standard for all others to be judged. The Vari-Cool Controller has a MIN, MAX and TUNE Knob. The Min is your starting point. You can set this between 1 and 30. The Max is your Full Pressure Point, the Tune is your curve. If you set the Min to 6, the max to 20 and the tune to 1, you will get a linear curve from 6 to max at 20. If you adjust the Tune higher, you will get a more aggressive tune. The controller comes with 10 pre-programmed maps, as seen on one of the charts below.  This is the first and only methanol injection controller to have a fully programmable progressive controller. You can hook the unit to your laptop or PC (requires battery power source) and change the parameters. You can make your own maps.  For example, you can make position 1 for street driving, 2 for track, 3 for when you are on high boost, etc.  The controller is completely plug and play right out of the box.  Use of the software to customize your injection is not required, since the controller comes preloaded with 10 different maps. 

Our controller is so dynamic that just about any car can run with the same size nozzle, regardless of the HP. So if you start with a 300 HP car and run our controller, if you end up with 600 HP you will be able to use the same nozzle!  All it will require is to change the knob to a higher position or program your new maps to spray more methanol/water. Probably one of the coolest features is that our controller can allow you to run both the 0-5V input and the Boost at the same time. Using our software you can configure it for example:

Have the 0-5V as the Primary Input and only activate when boost is over a certain Amount (user adjustable)

This controller has a 1/8" boost port that you can simply attach a boost source.  Rather than tapping into your existing MAP wires, you can easily just tap a boost line and plug it directly into the unit.

Remember our controller has a CPU and is 100% digital. The accuracy rate and flexibility of this unit is astounding.

The Vari-Cool Controller is the only unit on the market that allows for both a 0-5V input and a boost port. This means you don't have to choose, you can do either. It also takes it a step further and lets you use both at the same time. It will require you to use the software if you want to run the 0-5V and the Boost Port at the same time.

The Vari-Cool Controller is a revolutionary in terms of what a water/methanol injection controller is thought of.  Say good bye to pre-programmed controllers that give you no options for tuning, and only have a straight line of increased injection.  Our controller is fully configurable via the Vari-Cool software. This software program allows you to program the unit to your specs with your laptop.  For those of you that do not want to use your computer, the system comes pre-programmed with a base map and has 10 different curves you can choose from. Unlike the other controllers that have a built in linear algorithm, we give you a choice of 10.  This makes the Vari-Cool the controller of choice for tuners and for individuals that want the absolute best controller .

Software can be downloaded
here.  Warning: This software will not function unless the controller is connected to the serial port. The Vari-Cool controller has many advantages.

1)   The casing is heavy duty aluminum, approximately 3/16" thick.

2)   Minimum and maximum knobs are easily adjustable and color coded.

3)   Our controller has both a built in boost sensor and a 0-5 V input. We believe that at this time this is the first and only controller to have integrated both features into a single controller. The pressure sensor is more accurate than competitors models that translate the output from the vehicles map sensor.

4)  Our controller has a 10 position knob that has 10 pre-programmed algorithms for spraying the water/methanol These range from a linear output to an aggressive output. The higher the number the more aggressive the flow. Because of this feature your vehicle can gain more HP and you don't have to worry about changing the nozzle size. Competitors models that do not have that ability are hard coded. That means when you hook the unit up, they give you a pre-programmed algorithm that is likely some what linear in nature. You have no ability to tune with it.

5)  #4 is a great feature and while we are one of the only companies that have that feature. But we took it a step further, with our software you can change the values to make the flow what ever you want.  You may want to make the overall flow from 1-10 more aggressive or less aggressive. Its your controller, tune it the way you want!  Many features of the controller are programmable and screenshots will be below.  It is not necessary to ever use the software. The software exists for those that want to tune for it. The system is plug and play out of the box and has 10 maps already programmed that will satisfy 99.9% of the vehicles. Software requires windows 2000, XP, 2003 and .NET framework (free from Microsoft).

6)  You can configure the software to allow the controller to let you use both the 0-5V input and the Boost at the same time. You can make boost as primary input and only inject when above a certain voltage, or use voltage as primary and only inject when above a specific boost.


Examples of the water/methanol curve and how you can change it:

This is the first and only controller on the market that is user-configurable. This makes a great option for those that want to tune to the last detail. No other controller will allow you to do that.  For those that just want a simple controller you are in for a pleasant surprise. The Vari-Cool controller is designed to be superior to all other controllers out of the box. This means you can install the controller on your car and be able to fine tune to your vehicle far better than any other controller on the market, without even using the software.

Don't you love it when you purchase a controller and then 3 weeks later the newer and better one is out?  Or every 2 months release a new "Stage". ?

We don't need to do those gimmics here. Because of the software, if we come out with a "stage II" it will be a simple software download. How is that for convenience?

Here is a sample of how you can change the output curve. Note that this is just a sample, the possibilities are infinite and can be configured to your own needs if you wish.  Rather than just having a straight line of increased injection, with our controller you can not only control when the injection begins, but at what rate it increases.

Controller Specifications:

-  16 Bit High Speed Digital Signal Processor (DSP) Control that operates at approximately 0.5ms.
-  A tunable linear control algorithm updates the Motor control output 2000 updates/second.
-  16 Bit Motor current control resolution provides finely tuned output adjustments of 0.001% of the maximum Motor current draw.

Electrical Specifications:

-  Operates on wide input voltage range 7 – 26 VDC
-  Up to 30Amps DC to the pump across the operating voltage range (using proper wiring and fuse).
-  Unit itself draws less than 50mA with the Motor control output turned off. This means that if the car is not running, this unit can run off the battery alone for a very long time.
-  0 – 5VDC Auxiliary Input with transient voltage protection and 12 bit resolution (0.01 V resolution) can be used with any 0-5VDC sensor to control the Motor Output level or monitored (via serial port).
-  External automotive style fuse protection that can easily be sized to accommodate various motor sizes.
-  Can be wired directly to the electrical system for always on operation or wired through an Automotive Relay connected to the ignition switch for ignition switch operation.

Vari-Cool Software Specifications:

Software talks to the Vari-Cool unit using a serial port that will work with any compatible PC running Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows ME, Windows 98, or Windows NT.

Vari-Cool operates in 2 modes. Run mode and configuration mode. In run mode, you monitor data collected by the Vari-Cool unit. In configuration mode, you can set tuning and calibration parameters.

Serial Port:

Vari-Cool serial port has the following settings:

Baud Rate 115200 baud
-  Data Bits 8 bits
-  Stop Bits 1 bit
-  Parity None
-  Flow Control None

The Vari-Cool serial port connector is a standard 9 Pin Female DSUB style connector. The Vari-Cool is configured as Data Communications Equipment (DCE device). The connector pin out is as follows:

Run Mode (Status LED Fast Flash):

The Run Mode is the default operating mode of the Vari-Cool controller. While in the Run Mode the Vari-Cool controller continuously runs the motor control processing loop. This loop reads the inputs and adjusts the motor control output accordingly. In the Run Mode a Status Message can be requested or setup to be sent automatically on a configurable Timer period.

The following data values are monitored, logged, and charted with the software:

-  Operation mode (0=Run Mode, 1=Configuration Mode)
-  Boost Pressure Reading (PSI or “Hg, whichever applies)
-  5V Auxiliary Input Reading (%)
-  Output to Motor (%)
-  Minimum Pressure Setting (PSI or “Hg)
-  Maximum Pressure Setting (PSI or “Hg)
-  Tune Switch Setting (1 - 10)
-  Auxiliary Input Switch Setting
-  Controller Status

Configuration Mode (Status LED Slow Flash):

The Configuration Mode of the Vari-Cool controller provides an operating mode in which Configuration Parameters can be read and written.

The following parameters are able to be modified:

-  Minimum Motor Output (%) – This is minimum output at which the pump is able to operate and spray water. This value defaults to the requirements of the pumps we supply. If you use a different pump, you may need to modify this value.
-  Maximum Motor Output (%) – This is the maximum output at which the pump should ever operate. This value defaults to the requirements of the pumps we supply. If you use a different pump, you may need to modify this value.
-  Minimum Pressure (PSI or “Hg) – This is the minimum calibrated range of the pressure sensor supplied with the Vari-Cool unit.
-  Maximum Pressure (PSI or “Hg) – This is the maximum calibrated range of the pressure sensor supplied with the Vari-Cool unit.
-  Tuning Parameter – This is a parameter that will change the shape of the output curve to the pump. This can be used to account for any non linear effects of your vehicle, pump, etc. By default, the unit will be calibrated; however you may wish to work with this curve to obtain even better results.


*NOTE*:  The serial cable is not included.

When selecting the injector(s), select the maximum amount you want to inject.  If you purchase the Dual Nozzle Upgrade, both the injectors together should total the maximum amount you want to inject.
