Save Gas Money!
With the outrageous increase in gas prices, many users of our kits have started to notice a way to actually save money by using Water/Alcohol Injection. Many of us own cars that require the use of premium fuel. If you try and use the cheap 87 octane fuel, you will notice the power loss and can probably actually hear the pinging (knock). Recently, one of our users (Justin Awbrey) datalogged the effects of using 87 octane with Water/Alcohol Injeciton. He made several 3rd, 4th, and 5th gear pulls to gather the results. This data is from a Dodge SRT-4, with 289.9 whp and 339.9 tq, with pump gas and Water/Alcohol Injection. His stock boost level is 12-15 psi, but with his modifications he spikes to 22, and holds 18 psi. Here is what was logged, using a DRB from a dealership. With 87 octane and the injection system OFF, the engine would knock and pulled timing 6 degrees. With 87 Octane and the injection system turned ON, there was no knock, and full timing advance. These results equal, if not exceed, the results from using premium gas. The actual cost savings: Water is free, so for this calculation we will assume that you are using some methanol, for a cost of roughly $2 per gallon for your water/alcohol mixture. We will also assume that 1 gallon lasts for 3 tanks of gas (many people get more, many people get less, so 3 tanks is about average). If your gas tank holds 15 gallons, then that $2 for the methanol is spread out over 45 gallons of gas, for a cost of 4.5¢ per gallon. The difference in cost between 87 octane and premium fuel, averages about $0.30 per gallon (click here for nationwide fuel averages). So if you can use 87 octane with Water/Alcohol Injection, then you will save approximately $0.25 per gallon of gas. The average driver drives at least 1000 miles per month, getting 20 miles per gallon. This means that the average user buys 50 gallons of gas per month. At a savings of $0.25 per gallon, that equals $12.50 saved per month. Over the course of a year, this equals $150, just under the price of our introductory kit. Those numbers are based on low miles per month, at a relatively good miles per gallon average. If you drive 1500 miles per month, at 17 miles per gallon, your monthly savings are $22, and your yearly savings are $264! |
